A collaboration in open-source. choreography between Catie Cuan, Amy LaViers, and Cat Maguire. "Watch your back!" Body-based metaphors inhabit our everyday language, idiomatic meanings rooted in the design of our bodily form. Mechanical systems share this embodiment; for example, phrases like “wedge yourself between two entities”, shares intuition with the functioning of a simple machine, like a wedge.  Today, many systems have increasing elements of digital control via circuits and computers. These machines have mechanisms, like transistors, which are miniaturized below the time- and length-scales of human experience.  How then can artists reason about these new, ubiquitous devices? Our piece is one attempt at such a reasoning.  The piece has been performed in residence at the RAD Lab in Urbana, IL, on Water St. in Charlottesville, VA, and at GitHub presented by CODAME in San Francisco, CA.  To perform the piece in your community, see our GitHub repo here.
